1930s detached house

Location: Reigate, Surrey

Size: 535sqm

Type: Extension, Refurbishment

This extensive renovation and extension of an existing 1930's detached house in Reigate successfully simplified a complicated internal layout to create a modern family home. The existing house had been extended over two storeys in the 1980's and included two staircases creating a confusing and dysfunctional floor plan. Both staircases were removed with a re-orientated new staircase designed.

We retained the existing 1930's mock tudor features due to the site being within a special planning area while specifying new aluminium windows and front door in a light grey giving a modern feel. The rear of the house allows for generous connection to the extensive rear patio and garden with large sliding glass doors. The interior design incorporates subtle art deco details as a nod to the age of the existing building. A liquid resin floor was poured to the new extension areas and engineered oak timber flooring was fitted to all levels of the existing house.

A ground source heat pump was installed with the gas supply being removed making the house fully electric all controlled through a Loxone home automation system.
